Price Reduction – Type IIR Surgical Masks (standard EN 14683:2019+AC:2019).
In accordance with the requirements of the legislation relating to Face Filter Piece (FFP) protective equipment, namely Regulation (EU) 2016/425 as well as standard EN 14683:2019+AC:2019, an expiration date must be indicated on Type IIR surgical masks.
Although the date indicated on these masks has now passed, the products have been stored under appropriate conditions and show no visual or structural deterioration. They may therefore continue to be used in a non-medical or non-critical context.
You can wear them normally and, if you wish, replace the mask every 2 hours as is generally recommended for this type of product.

The protection provided by inhalation is real, but not quantified for a surgical mask: it is not designed to protect the wearer against inhalation of airborne bacteria or viral particles. This is why FFP (Face Filter Piece) masks offer better protection for this type of use.

Improved Filtration of Respiratory Droplets
When used once, a surgical mask contains the dispersion of respiratory droplets produced during a sneeze quite well.
However, this effectiveness depends on its design, the materials used for its manufacturing, its dimensions, and how well it fits the face.
It has been shown to significantly limit the transmission of airborne viruses (flu, coronavirus...) by infected individuals.
Much Higher Effectiveness Than Cloth Masks
Its effectiveness has also been demonstrated in enclosed spaces (inside buildings).
For example, the widespread use (by patients, staff, visitors) of this type of mask in hospitals significantly reduces the risk of nosocomial flu.
In this context, it also shows much higher effectiveness than cloth masks, which may be used in case of shortage, such as during the COVID-19 epidemic in 2020.
The main reasons for the lower effectiveness of cloth masks are moisture retention, their low filtration capacity, and contamination when reused without washing with soap.
